Xperia Play Not Going To Receive Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade
Sony’s Xperia Play phone won’t be updating to Android version four.0, additionally called “Ice Cream Sandwich,” as noted on a recent product blog entry. Sony cites consistency and stability in its call to withhold the phone from the list of devices receiving the upgrade, that was initially planned to unleash at the top of May/early June.
Sony explained that “after intensive in house testing with our developer groups and dealing with our partners, we’ve concluded that an identical and stable expertise, significantly with gaming, can not be guaranteed for this smartphone on Ice Cream Sandwich.” Its call seems bolstered by feedback from advanced users and game developers that used a beta ROM of the Android version on their Xperia Play devices.
While instability within the software may compromise a “quality gaming experience” on the phone, we secretly need to believe that a patent unveiled in late April indicates a dual-keyboard device is on the means.
